The Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA), Mr. Hussein Qasim Yusuf, has announced that Somali passports will now be processed and issued within seven days.
Mr. Hussein said that all longstanding delays in passport service delivery have been resolved through recent operational improvements.
The Agency is responsible for issuing passports, admission and residence permits, granting Somali citizenship, and overseeing deportation procedures.
“This marks a vital step forward in enhancing efficiency and service delivery for Somali citizens,” he said.
“Applicants can now expect their passports to be ready within one week of submitting their applications,” he added.
The Director General emphasized the importance of prioritizing quality, efficiency, and timely service delivery to the public.
In the past, Somali citizens, including those living in the diaspora, had raised concerns over prolonged delays in passport processing.
The Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) is responsible for regulating immigration and naturalization processes in Somalia. It also ensures compliance with national security protocols while providing immigration and passport services.
Additionally, the Agency is tasked with safeguarding border security and monitoring and managing cross-border movements across Somalia.
