Umulkheir Harun Supports Free Driving Training for Boda Boda and Tuk-Tuk Youth in Garissa

Nominated Member of Parliament and Garissa Women Representative candidate Umulkheir Harun has supported a free driving training and licensing programme targeting boda boda and tuk-tuk operators in Garissa.

The programme, being conducted at the North Eastern National Polytechnic (NENAP) in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), is offering 70 slots for motorcycle and tuk-tuk licence training.

The initiative is aimed at helping young commercial transport operators acquire professional driving skills, obtain the required licences and improve compliance with road safety regulations.

Participants will receive professional training from NTSA-approved instructors, road safety education, practical and theory sessions and support in the licence processing process.

Eligible applicants are required to be at least 18 years old and provide a National ID or passport, KRA PIN, two passport-size photographs and a medical certificate.

MP Umulkheir Harun has urged young people in the boda boda and tuk-tuk sector to take advantage of the programme.

The youthful politician described the opportunity as a practical pathway to professionalise their work while promoting safer roads.

“Commercial motorcycle and tuk-tuk operators remain an important part of the local transport system, particularly in supporting mobility and livelihoods across Garissa,” she said.

MP Umulkheir Harun encouraged interested youth to enrol early, citing the limited number of available slots.

“Train. Get Licensed. Drive with Confidence,” the programme message says.

Umulkheir Harun, who is seeking to become the next Garissa Women Representative, has prioritized initiatives targeting youth opportunities, skills development and community empowerment.
