President William Ruto has said Kenya’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are progressing well, with stadium infrastructure development remaining on schedule.
Speaking after receiving a briefing from the Ministry of Sports and other stakeholders at State House, Nairobi, the President said the government was satisfied with the progress made ahead of the continental football tournament, which Kenya will jointly host with Uganda and Tanzania.
Ruto noted that the ongoing construction and upgrading of sports facilities are on course, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering the infrastructure required to successfully stage the tournament.
The President also said preparations for the national football team, Harambee Stars, have already begun. He pledged full government support to ensure the team is adequately prepared to compete at the prestigious continental championship.
“We are committed to fully giving the team the necessary support to ensure it represents our country effectively at the continental event,” Ruto said.
AFCON 2027 will mark the first time the three East African nations—Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania—jointly host Africa’s premier football tournament.
