Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has called on young Kenyans to embrace innovation and creativity as key drivers of the country’s future.

CS Duale was speaking during the official opening of the 62nd National Science and Engineering Fair in Garissa on Monday.

CS Duale emphasized that the annual fair is more than just a competition, describing it as a platform that nurtures talent, builds character, and inspires problem-solving among students from across all 47 counties.

“This is the Kenya we want—where young people can gather, think, create, and solve real-world problems,” he said. “You are not just participants; you are the innovators of today and leaders of tomorrow.”

The CS highlighted the evolution of the science fair since its inception in 1962.

He noted the growth of the fair into a national platform that brings together bright minds to showcase ideas and innovations.

Duale underscored the importance of science and technology in achieving Kenya’s development goals under Vision 2030.

He urged students to pursue STEM pathways and adopt a mindset focused on innovation and practical solutions.

The Cabinet Secretary pointed out public healthcare as a key area ripe for innovation, encouraging students to explore opportunities in digital health, medical technologies, and community health solutions.

“The world needs solutions that improve how we deliver care, prevent diseases, and protect lives. Public health is an area rich with opportunity for young innovators,” he said.

The CS further challenged participants to go beyond the competition and develop their projects into impactful solutions that address community challenges.

He also called on institutions, including the Kenya Innovation Agency, to support young innovators in refining and commercializing their ideas.

CS Duale commended teachers and mentors for their role in shaping students’ futures and acknowledged the efforts of organizers and sponsors in supporting the initiative.

He also praised Garissa County and the host institutions for successfully organizing the forum, noting that talent exists in every part of the country.

“The future will not be built in policy documents—it will be built by young people like you,” he added.
