ODM Garissa Chairman Mohamed Abass Bulale Defects to Linda Mwananchi

Mohamed Abass Bulale, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman for Garissa Township, has defected to the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM), in a political shift ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Bulale alias Mudu Abass announced his decision to join the movement, associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, saying he would use its platform to pursue his bid for the Garissa Township parliamentary seat.

He attributed his defection to LMM’s growing grassroots appeal and increasing penetration among young people across the country.

“The movement provides an alternative political platform for a generation seeking greater participation in leadership and governance,” said the former Deputy Speaker of Garissa County Assembly.

He said the growing enthusiasm among young Kenyans for the movement reflected changing political attitudes and demand for accountable leadership, meaningful representation and opportunities for youth participation in national affairs.

Bulale’s move comes as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with emerging political movements seeking to expand their influence beyond established party structures.

A former Garissa County Assembly member, Bulale was elected in 2017 on a Labour Party of Kenya (LPK) ticket before joining ODM, where he served as the party’s Garissa Township chairman.

His defection marks a significant change in his political alignment as he prepares to challenge for the constituency’s parliamentary seat under the LMM banner.

He said his political ambitions were driven by support from grassroots communities and the need for leadership that responds to the concerns of residents.

“The people of Garissa deserve leaders who will listen, act swiftly, and prioritise the well-being of traders, youth and the vulnerable,” he said.
