Abdihakim Mohamud Hakar, the United Patriotic Movement (UPM) leader in Garissa County, has declared his intention to use the party as his political vehicle in the 2027 General Election as he seeks the Iftin Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat.
Hakar, who has been involved in strengthening UPM’s grassroots presence in Garissa, is positioning himself as a political aspirant seeking to represent residents of Iftin Ward in the Garissa County Assembly.
His political vision centres on inclusive leadership, community participation and strengthening the relationship between elected representatives and residents.
The Iftin Ward MCA hopeful says effective representation should go beyond electoral promises and focus on addressing the everyday challenges facing residents through responsive leadership and consistent public engagement.
Hakar’s aspirations for Iftin Ward include promoting youth participation in leadership, supporting community-driven development and ensuring residents have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their lives.
He believes grassroots mobilisation and public engagement are essential to identifying community priorities and developing practical solutions.
His leadership agenda also emphasises accountable representation, stronger oversight of county programmes and effective communication between residents and the county government.
Through his political engagement, Hakar seeks to encourage young people and other community stakeholders to take an active role in governance and local development.
Beyond his MCA ambitions, Hakar serves as UPM’s leader in Garissa County, where he has been involved in efforts to expand the party’s organisational structures and grassroots networks.
The party, founded by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, is seeking to strengthen its national presence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Hakar says UPM provides a political platform through which he hopes to mobilise supporters and encourage broader participation in the democratic process.
He says his ability to translate the party’s organisational structures and community engagement into electoral support will be an important factor in his bid for the Iftin Ward MCA seat.
