Hola County Referral Hospital has restored specialised diagnostic services, including CT scans and panoramic dental X-rays, in a move expected to improve access to healthcare and reduce referrals outside the county.
County Executive Committee Member for Health Joshua Jara said the hospital’s CT scan machine is now fully operational, while the dental clinic has resumed Orthopantomogram (OPG) services, which provide panoramic X-ray images of the teeth and jaws.
Jara said the restoration of the services would ease the burden on patients who previously had to travel outside Tana River County to access specialised diagnostic procedures.
County Chief Officer for Health Ali Mluwa described the development as a significant milestone in strengthening healthcare delivery, saying it would bring essential medical services closer to residents while reducing the cost of seeking treatment elsewhere.
Director for Health Dr. Nicholas Mwenda highlighted the installation of new vaccine cold storage units, saying the equipment would improve vaccine preservation, strengthen stock management and support immunisation programmes across the county.
The improvements aims to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand access to essential and specialised medical services.
The county government expects the restored diagnostic services and improved vaccine storage capacity to reduce costly referrals and enhance the quality of healthcare available to residents.
