Garissa Jua Kali Association Chairperson and Garissa leader of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPOK) Osman Barkhadle has lauded the Friends of Garissa and Madogo Dinner Party, describing it as a timely initiative that promotes peace, unity and stronger cooperation between communities and security agencies.
Speaking during the event held in Garissa on Friday evening, Barkhadle said peace remains the foundation of economic growth and urged residents to embrace dialogue and coexistence to safeguard the region’s stability.
He noted that artisans and informal sector traders rely on a peaceful environment to operate their businesses, create jobs and contribute to the county’s economic development.
“We can only thrive when our communities are united and secure. Dialogue between residents and security personnel helps build trust and creates an environment where businesses can flourish,” he said.
Barkhadle commended the organisers for bringing together leaders, youth, business people and security officers to discuss issues affecting the community, saying such engagements strengthen relationships and help address emerging security concerns before they escalate.
He also called on young people to reject crime, drug abuse and violent extremism, urging them to take advantage of available opportunities in entrepreneurship and skills development.
The dinner brought together stakeholders from Garissa and Madogo for an evening of interaction with security personnel, focusing on strengthening community bonds, enhancing peace dialogue and promoting collaboration in maintaining security.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to working together to preserve peace and support development initiatives across the region, noting that lasting progress depends on unity and collective responsibility.
