Mrs. Asha Dekow is seeking the Garissa County Women Representative seat in the 2027 General Election with a platform centred on women’s economic empowerment, youth opportunity and support for vulnerable communities.
Mrs. Asha Dekow is positioning the Women Representative’s office as a practical instrument for inclusive development rather than solely a platform for political representation.
In an interview with RTG Digital outlining her candidacy, she urged voters to support her for the Women Representative position while freely choosing their preferred candidates for other candidates.
“We are in the race to win the seat. Choose the Governor, MP, Senator and MCA of your choice. For the Women Representative seat, I humbly ask for your vote and support,” Dekow said.
A central element of her message is community representation. Asha Dekow has highlighted her status as the only Samawathal woman endorsed by elders as their flagbearer in the race.
She argued that leadership should reflect the diversity of Garissa’s communities and that women from historically under-represented backgrounds must have a place in decision-making.
“I am the only Samawathal woman in this contest, and I am ready to represent our people with courage, unity and dedication,” she said.
Mr. Asha Dekow’s emerging agenda places women’s economic empowerment at its core.
She intends to prioritise programmes that expand women’s access to economic initiatives, support small-scale enterprises and improve the ability of women to benefit from government and development interventions.
The goal, according to her campaign framing, is to move women from dependence toward sustainable livelihoods.
Youth form another pillar of the proposed programme. Noting Garissa’s predominantly young population, Asha Dekow has linked political representation to tangible opportunities in education, skills development, entrepreneurship and employment.
She argues that the effectiveness of leadership should ultimately be measured by its impact on people’s daily lives.
The candidacy also emphasises support for vulnerable groups. As an affirmative-action office, the Women Representative position carries a mandate to champion issues affecting women and other communities that face barriers to political and economic participation.
Mrs. Asha Dekow has indicated she would use the role to strengthen advocacy and programmes aimed at improving household welfare for vulnerable families, women and children.
Her campaign message rests on three themes: representation, courage and unity.
While drawing attention to her community identity, she has sought to frame her appeal more broadly, speaking of representing “our people” across the county.
Analysts note that converting community recognition into a county-wide coalition will be a key test as the race develops.
Mrs. Asha Dekow’s entry comes amid growing expectations that holders of affirmative-action seats deliver measurable results in areas such as access to capital, employment, education, healthcare and decision-making for women.
Her proposition is that representation must lead to transformation — that the office should actively pursue partnerships and programmes capable of improving livelihoods.
