Garissa County Referral Hospital has improved healthcare service delivery through infrastructure modernization, enhancement of the physical environment, human capital development, and the optimal utilization of available resources.

The reforms are part of a broader strategy spearheaded by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mahat Sheikh Salah, to position the facility as a centre of excellence in healthcare provision within Garissa County and the wider North Eastern region.

CEO Mahat Salah said the transformation agenda seeks to create a patient-centred healthcare environment that promotes efficiency, professionalism, and quality service delivery.

“The hospital is implementing comprehensive measures that go beyond physical infrastructure. We are investing in our workforce, improving service delivery systems, and creating a conducive environment for both patients and healthcare workers,” he said.

The structural facelift includes the renovation of key hospital facilities, improvement of patient care areas, upgrading of administrative offices, and enhancement of essential service units.

The initiative is complemented by extensive landscaping works designed to improve the hospital’s aesthetics and create a welcoming environment for patients and visitors.

Deputy CEO Hussein Basheey noted that human capital development remains a critical pillar of the transformation agenda.

He said the hospital is strengthening the capacity of healthcare personnel through continuous professional development, mentorship programmes, and skills enhancement initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes.

“Our healthcare workers are our greatest asset. By investing in their professional growth and well-being, we are strengthening the quality of care delivered to the communities we serve,” Basheey said.

The hospital is also focusing on the efficient utilization of available resources to maximize service delivery, improve operational performance, and enhance patient satisfaction.

Acting Director of Hospital Administration M.H. Bullow emphasized the importance of teamwork and innovation in driving the transformation process.

He noted that sustained improvements in healthcare require the collective commitment of management, staff, and stakeholders.

“The changes taking place at Garissa County Referral Hospital are aimed at ensuring that residents have access to quality, dignified, and reliable healthcare services. We remain committed to building a modern healthcare institution capable of meeting the growing needs of our population,” he said.

The Level 5 teaching and referral hospital remains a key pillar in strengthening healthcare systems, improving patient experiences, and supporting Governor Nathif Jama’s vision of accessible and quality healthcare for all.
