Garissa County Boosts Water and Sanitation Services with K-WASH Initiative

A one-day technical forum aimed at improving water and sanitation services County has concluded.

Garissa County Department of Water Services brought together its staff and enumerators.

The forum was held ahead of the Kenya Water and Sanitation Development Program (K-WASH) data collection exercise, which will be conducted across all wards in the county.

It will also precede a customer identification survey targeting the Modogashe and Masalani water schemes—two critical water supply systems serving local communities.

The exercise is aimed at strengthening the county’s water sector database and enhancing customer identification. The move is expected to improve planning, accountability, and overall service delivery.

Accurate and up-to-date data will enable the county to better assess existing gaps and prioritize investments in water and sanitation infrastructure.

Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Sugow, the Chief Officer for Water Services commended technical staff and enumerators for their dedication and commitment to improving service delivery.

Mr. Sugow commended the K-WASH Project Implementation Unit for its role in developing the Garissa County Water and Sanitation Strategy and Investment Plan.

The strategy and investment plan is expected to play a key role in bridging disparities in access to water and sanitation services between rural and urban areas in the county.

Mr. Sugow said once fully implemented, it will guide sustainable investments and policy decisions in the sector.

Garissa County is among the 18 counties selected to benefit from the K-WASH Performance for Results (PforR) Program, a national initiative designed to strengthen water and sanitation systems through results-based financing.

He expressed optimism that the ongoing data collection and customer identification exercises will lay a strong foundation for improved water governance and enhanced access to safe water and sanitation for residents across Garissa County.
