Former Garissa governor and 2027 gubernatorial aspirant Ali Korane has stepped up his political outreach after convening a consultative meeting with Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from the Abudwak community representing Garissa Township, Fafi and Balambala constituencies.
In a statement following the meeting, Mr Korane said the discussions were wide-ranging and focused on the priorities confronting residents, the current state of county governance and the need for unity and coordinated leadership as the next election cycle approaches.
“We engaged in candid discussions on the priorities facing our people, the state of county governance, and the need for unity and coordinated leadership going into the campaigns ahead,” he said.
Mr Korane said the MCAs expressed readiness to provide leadership and grassroots support for his 2027 bid, as well as for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and President William Ruto.
He described their commitment as a strong signal of growing momentum behind his political comeback.
The former governor, who is seeking to reclaim the seat he once held, has in recent months intensified engagements with local leaders and community representatives across the county.
His campaign messaging has centred on unity, improved governance and closer alignment with the national government’s development agenda.
Mr. Mohamed Abdi, an analyst, views the meeting as part of early efforts to consolidate support within key communities while strengthening UDA’s presence in Garissa County, a politically strategic region in northern Kenya.
“With more than a year to the 2027 general election, such consultations underscore how local alliances and grassroots mobilisation are already shaping the contours of the race in Garissa.”
