The Wajir High School Alumni Association has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting education, mentorship and institutional development after holding one of its largest and most successful Annual General Meetings in Wajir on Saturday.
The 2026 AGM brought together hundreds of alumni, government leaders, education stakeholders, development partners, parents, teachers and students, underscoring the growing influence of former students in shaping the future of their alma mater.
Mr. Abdullahi Maalim, the secretary of the organization outlined the association’s achievements, ongoing initiatives and strategic priorities aimed at strengthening Wajir High School through alumni engagement and partnerships.
“The strength of any alumni association lies in its unity and commitment to giving back. Today was not only a reflection of what we have achieved together, but also a reminder that our responsibility to support our school and mentor future generations continues,” Maalim said.
He said the association would continue working closely with the school administration, government institutions and development partners to improve learning opportunities, expand student support programmes and create an environment where learners can excel.
The Annual General Meeting was chaired by Association Chairman Abdirahman Ali Hassan (Olow) and attended by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed, the Wajir County Commissioner, members of the school’s Board of Management, development partners, teachers, parents and students.
School Board Chairman Eng. Amb. Mahbub Maalim commended the alumni association for its consistent contribution to the institution’s growth, describing it as a model for alumni organisations across the country.
“The Wajir High School Alumni Association has demonstrated what organised alumni can achieve. Their dedication, consistency and willingness to invest in the future of this school should serve as an example to many institutions across the country,” he said.
The meeting also received support from development partners, including the KCB Foundation and NACONEK, highlighting the importance of partnerships in advancing quality education and creating greater opportunities for students.
Wajir High School Principal Adan Kassim praised former students for maintaining strong ties with the school, saying their contributions extend beyond financial support to include mentorship, motivation and career guidance.
“Our alumni continue to prove that education creates lifelong bonds. Their contributions go beyond financial support—they provide mentorship, motivation and hope for our students. We deeply appreciate their commitment to the continued success of Wajir High School,” Kassim said.
During the AGM meeting, a prize-giving ceremony recognising outstanding students for academic excellence was also held at the institution.
Education stakeholders called for sustained investment in rewarding achievement and inspiring learners to aim higher.
Participants described the gathering as one of the most successful in the association’s recent history, bringing together alumni from different generations under a shared commitment to giving back to their former school.
“The successful meeting marks the beginning of a renewed chapter for the organisation, with plans to expand mentorship programmes, strengthen institutional partnerships and support sustainable development initiatives at Wajir High School.”
