Iftin Ward MCA aspirant Siyat Abdi Gedi has stepped up his grassroots campaign, placing youth empowerment, sports and talent development at the centre of his political agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mr Gedi attended and supported a friendly football match between Girona FC and Banadir FC in Iftin, where Girona FC secured a 2–1 victory.
The match provided Mr Gedi with an opportunity to engage with young people and local sports enthusiasts as he highlighted his commitment to using sports as a platform for talent development, youth empowerment and community engagement.
Mr Gedi said the passion and determination displayed by the two teams demonstrated the potential among young people in Iftin, which he said deserves greater support and investment.
“It was a pleasure to witness and support the unwavering commitment of Girona FC and Banadir FC in Iftin during their friendly match,” Mr Gedi said.
He pledged to continue supporting sports initiatives and youth-focused programmes, arguing that investment in talent can create opportunities while keeping young people engaged in productive activities.
Mr Gedi, who is seeking the Iftin Ward MCA seat in 2027, said his campaign would focus on youth empowerment, talent development and expanding opportunities for residents.
The aspirant said he would work closely with youth groups, sports teams and other community stakeholders to create a stronger platform for young people to showcase their talents and pursue opportunities.
The 2–1 result in favour of Girona FC added a competitive edge to an encounter that also served as a platform for youth engagement and community mobilisation.
Girona FC coach Farhan Bishar welcomed his side’s victory, saying the match provided players with an opportunity to showcase their talent and build confidence.
He also appreciated the community’s support and efforts to promote football and youth talent in Iftin.
“We are happy with the victory, but beyond the result, what matters is giving our players a platform to showcase their talent, gain experience and build confidence,” Mr Bishar said.
Banadir FC coach Sahal Bare said his players gave their best despite the 2–1 defeat, describing the encounter as an important opportunity for the team to gain exposure and experience.
Mr Bare said such matches help young players build confidence, improve their skills and remain motivated to pursue their football ambitions.
“We gave our best and the players showed determination throughout the match. Despite the result, this was a valuable experience for the team and an important opportunity for our young players,” Mr Bare said.
