Governance and development consultant Omar Mohamed Sheikh has pledged to overhaul the system of administration in Wajir County if elected governor in the 2027 General Election.
Sheikh, who is seeking the county’s top seat, said his administration would establish clear governance structures and a development model aimed at improving service delivery and accelerating economic transformation across Wajir.
He called on residents across the county to support his bid, saying his campaign would be anchored on institutional reform, effective administration and inclusive development.
“I am returning to seek the county’s top seat armed with extensive academic and professional experience,” Sheikh said, highlighting his background in agriculture, rural development and public-sector management.
Sheikh holds a Master of Science in Agriculture and Rural Development, a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and a Diploma in Range Management. He has also undertaken several professional training programmes in Kenya and abroad.
His public-sector career includes serving as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ewaso Ng’iro North Development Authority (ENNDA), where he served two consecutive terms as the institution’s accounting officer.
ENNDA was established on December 1, 1989, under the Ewaso Ng’iro North River Basin Development Authority Act, Cap. 448 of the Laws of Kenya. The authority is mandated to plan, coordinate and implement development projects and programmes within the Ewaso Ng’iro North basin and catchment areas.
It is one of Kenya’s six regional development authorities, alongside the Lake Basin Development Authority, Kerio Valley Development Authority, Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority, Coast Development Authority and Ewaso Ng’iro South Development Authority.
Sheikh also cited his contribution to national development as part of his public-service record, noting that he was awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW), a national honour conferred by the President during Kenya’s 50th Independence anniversary celebrations.
His proposed administration, he said, would focus on creating stronger institutional structures and a coordinated development framework capable of ensuring equitable access to county services while unlocking Wajir’s economic potential.
Omar said his administration, if elected, would pursue a social and economic transformation agenda centred on expanding access to capital, supporting entrepreneurship and creating sustainable income-generating opportunities across the county.
