Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital has assured the public that patient care has not been disrupted despite a power outage that sparked concern on social media.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Tuesday evening, the hospital said all medical services remain fully operational, with patients continuing to receive safe and uninterrupted care.

The press statement noted the hospital management said Chief Executive Officer Mahat Sheikh Salah and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Hussein Basheey remained on site overseeing operations and coordinating measures to maintain service delivery while efforts are underway to restore normal electricity supply.

It said critical departments, including the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), operating theatres, maternity and emergency units, have remained fully functional throughout the outage.

The centre further explained that it is equipped with standby generators capable of providing at least four hours of backup power, with all life-support equipment and other critical medical systems connected to the emergency power supply.

“No patient has been placed at risk as a result of the power interruption,” read parts of the statement.

The Referral Hospital added that both clinical and support services are continuing as scheduled as it works closely with the relevant authorities to restore the main power supply.

The hospital also urged members of the public to rely on information shared through its official communication channels and disregard unverified reports circulating online.

The centre reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, quality and uninterrupted healthcare services to residents of Garissa County and the wider North Eastern region.
