Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital (GCTRH) will conduct a free three-day Pediatric Epilepsy Camp from July 21 to July 23, 2026, targeting children under the age of 18 living with epilepsy, seizure disorders and psychiatric illnesses across Garissa County.

The medical camp, which will run daily from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., aims to improve access to specialised diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care for children affected by neurological and mental health conditions.

Dr. Rukia Ahmed, a pediatrician at Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital, said the camp is an important opportunity for families to access expert care at no cost.

“Epilepsy is a treatable condition, and with the right diagnosis, medication and regular follow-up, children can live healthy and productive lives. We encourage parents not to hide children experiencing seizures or other neurological conditions but to bring them to the camp for assessment and treatment,” said Dr. Rukia.

She noted that the initiative will also cater to children with psychiatric illnesses, providing comprehensive evaluations and appropriate referrals where necessary.

“Early intervention is key. The earlier a child receives specialised care, the better the chances of controlling seizures, improving development and enhancing their quality of life,” she added.

The the outreach is part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen specialised pediatric healthcare services and ensure children with neurological disorders receive timely and affordable treatment.

The referral facility has encouraged all eligible families across Garissa County to take advantage of the free medical camp.

Parents and guardians of eligible children have been urged to register in advance by calling 0722 510 959.
