A family in Garissa has demanded a thorough investigation after a 25-year-old General Service Unit (GSU) officer was found dead just metres from the camp where he was stationed in Damajali, near the Kenya–Somalia border.
The officer’s body was discovered about 50 metres from the GSU camp, a detail that has raised suspicions among relatives and local leaders. Initial reports suggested the officer died by suicide, but the family has strongly disputed this account, insisting the circumstances point to possible foul play.
The deceased’s sister said visible signs on the body did not support claims of suicide, while leaders from the area questioned how such an incident could occur so close to a secured camp without clear answers.
Garissa Township MP Dekow Mohamed also cast doubt on the initial findings, stating that the death appeared “highly suspicious” and calling for an independent and transparent investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The case adds to a growing list of police deaths reported under unclear circumstances in 2025, intensifying public concern over the safety and welfare of officers on duty.
Authorities have confirmed that samples were taken for forensic analysis as investigations continue to establish the exact cause of death.
