The Department of Diaspora Affairs has cautioned job seekers in Garissa and across Kenya against fraudulent overseas employment recruiters, urging applicants to verify recruitment agencies before accepting foreign job offers.
The department advised prospective migrant workers to confirm that recruitment agencies are registered and authorised by the National Employment Authority (NEA) before signing employment contracts or making any payments.
Authorities warned that recruiters demanding upfront fees could expose job seekers to fraud, financial losses and potential exploitation abroad.
The advisory comes as Kenya’s diaspora remittances continue to play a significant role in the economy, with annual inflows projected to reach US$5 billion.
The department’s warning highlights the importance of safe and informed labour migration as more Kenyans seek employment opportunities outside the country.
Job seekers have been urged to conduct due diligence, verify the legitimacy of recruitment agencies and carefully review employment terms before travelling abroad for work.
