Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has hailed Garissa Level 5 Hospital for what he described as “great and transformative work” that continues to uplift the lives of the county’s residents.
Speaking during Jamhuri Day celebrations, the governor said the facility has become a symbol of hope and progress.
He said the institution today reflects how far Garissa has come from the days when patients were routinely referred to Nairobi for basic services.
Governor Nathif noted that the hospital’s rapid improvements align with his vision of building an efficient, integrated and high-quality affordable health care system for Garissa County.
He commended the management led by Chief Executive Officer Mahat Salah and staff for consistently providing quality, accessible and culturally responsive services to the community.
Over the past year, Garissa Level 5 Hospital has expanded its capacity across critical areas. Modern equipment has been installed in key departments, enabling procedures such as dialysis, advanced surgeries, ENT care, eye treatments and laparoscopic operations to be done locally.
The governor said these upgrades have boosted patient comfort, strengthened diagnostics, and improved sanitation within the facility.
He further highlighted the growing health workforce, noting that more doctors, nurses and specialists have joined the hospital to meet rising demand.
“Medicines are now available consistently, reducing delays in treatment and ensuring patients receive timely care,” he said.
Governor Nathif also commended the hospital for creating an enabling environment for health service delivery and for its continued role in regulating, setting standards and supporting policy implementation within the county’s health sector.
He said the progress at the Level 5 facility demonstrates a clear commitment to delivering health services that improve the overall livelihoods of the people of Garissa.
