The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has intensified training and sensitisation of Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators in Garissa as part of efforts to reduce road crashes and improve passenger safety.
The initiative targets drivers, conductors and other PSV operators, with emphasis on road safety practices, responsible driving and compliance with traffic regulations.
Garissa, which serves as a major transport hub linking northeastern Kenya to other parts of the country, experiences significant movement of passenger vehicles along its major roads. The increased traffic has heightened the need for continuous road safety awareness among transport operators.
NTSA’s training programme seeks to equip PSV operators with knowledge and skills to identify and manage road safety risks while encouraging adherence to speed limits, proper vehicle maintenance and other road regulations.
The authority has also continued to emphasise the importance of responsible behaviour by drivers, particularly in preventing reckless driving, speeding, dangerous overtaking and other practices that can contribute to crashes.
Transport operators in Garissa have been encouraged to make road safety a priority and ensure that vehicles are operated by qualified and properly trained personnel.
The training comes as road safety agencies continue to push for greater compliance among PSV operators across the country, with the aim of reducing deaths and injuries resulting from road crashes.
The initiative aims to increase awareness within the public transport sector and promote safer journeys.
