The World Health Organization has expressed satisfaction with ongoing efforts to contain a cholera outbreak in Garissa County that has recorded more than 2,000 cases and 11 deaths since last year.
WHO Country Representative Dr Abdulrahman Diallo and the agency’s Garissa team noted progress through oral cholera vaccination, decongestion of refugee camps in Dadaab, and community sensitisation.
However, officials stressed that vaccination alone is not enough. They called for improved access to clean water, better sanitation and proper food handling.
Garissa County Health CEC Ahmed Nadhir thanked WHO for its support and said the county would continue multi-sectoral efforts to prevent further outbreaks.
