Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi meets young innovator Mohamednur Jimale Haret, who is turning his passion for aviation into hands-on experimentation with RC aircraft and drone technology.

A young innovator from Wajir is has turned a childhood fascination with aircraft into hands-on experimentation with remote-controlled (RC) aircraft and drone technology.

Mohamednur Jimale Haret recently shared his journey with Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi during a meeting at the governor’s office, where he spoke about his passion for aviation and his efforts to explore drone technology.

Rather than approaching the governor with a specific request, Mohamednur presented his ideas and experiences, demonstrating how curiosity about aircraft had developed into an interest in designing and experimenting with his own technology.

Governor Abdullahi said he was impressed by the young man’s determination and encouraged him to continue pursuing his interests.

The governor also assured Mohamednur of his support wherever possible as he develops his skills and explores opportunities in aviation and drone technology.

Mohamednur’s story highlights a growing interest among young people in Northern Kenya in science, technology and innovation—areas that have traditionally faced limited access to resources and opportunities in the region.

Governor Abdullahi described Mohamednur as an example of a changing Northern Kenya, where young people are increasingly pursuing opportunities in education, sports, technology and innovation.

There is growing interest in emerging technologies across the county that could open new possibilities for young people beyond conventional employment pathways.

Drone technology, for instance, has applications in areas such as agriculture, mapping, environmental monitoring, infrastructure inspection and emergency response, offering opportunities for technical skills development and entrepreneurship.

Governor Abdullahi urged young people to identify their talents, pursue their ambitions and remain focused on building productive futures.

He also cautioned them against drugs and other social vices, saying personal circumstances should not determine the limits of their aspirations.

“Your circumstances do not define your future,” the governor said, urging young people to believe in their abilities and pursue their dreams.

Mohamednur’s journey offers a glimpse of what can emerge when curiosity is encouraged and young people are given the space and support to experiment, learn and innovate.

His interest in aircraft and drones may still be at an early stage, but it reflects a wider ambition among Northern Kenya’s youth to participate in the technologies shaping the future.
