Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) has officially opened Somaliland Diaspora Week, praising Somalilanders living abroad for their vital role in the country’s liberation, reconstruction, economic development, and international advocacy.
President Cirro described the diaspora as a cornerstone of Somaliland’s nation-building efforts, saying their contributions have been instrumental in shaping the country’s progress.
He commended the diaspora for supporting the struggle to restore Somaliland’s independence through financial assistance, advocacy, and professional expertise.
He also recognized their role in rebuilding the country after conflict by helping restore essential services, strengthen public institutions, and revive the economy.
The President reiterated the diaspora’s continued investment in education, healthcare, business, and infrastructure, noting that these efforts have created jobs and improved livelihoods across Somaliland.
President Cirro also praised the diaspora’s advocacy for Somaliland’s quest for international recognition, describing them as the country’s ambassadors who continue to promote its democratic credentials and lasting peace on the global stage.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to closer engagement with Somalilanders abroad, President Cirro pledged to foster a more enabling environment for investment, skills transfer, and greater diaspora participation in national development.
He urged the diaspora to remain united and continue supporting Somaliland’s peace, development, and recognition efforts.
