Plane Crash-Lands at Wilson Airport, Flights Briefly Suspended

Share:

Flights at Nairobi’s Wilson Airport were temporarily suspended on Friday after a cargo aircraft crash-landed and veered off the runway during landing.

The Dornier 228 aircraft, reportedly operated for the World Food Programme by Kasas, lost control on final approach before skidding past the runway and stopping near the airport perimeter along Langata Road.

Emergency response teams quickly secured the scene as aviation officials launched preliminary assessments into the incident. No official reports on casualties or injuries had been released by Friday evening.

Authorities have opened investigations to determine the cause of the crash-landing, with technical, weather and operational factors expected to form part of the inquiry.

Operations at the busy airport were briefly disrupted following the incident before safety checks were undertaken.

The Kenya Airports Authority had not issued an official statement by the time of publication.
