The Garissa County Assembly will conduct the vetting of four nominees for appointment to the Garissa County Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee.
The Assembly Clerk, said the nominees should appear before the Committee on Lands, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development on June 25, 2026, at the County Assembly precincts beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The nominees are Abdi Ali Owsahal, nominated for the position of Non-Executive Chairperson; Mohamed Abdi Ahmed, representing the Traders Association; Magol Muhiyadin Abdi, representing the Residents Association; and Bishara Elyas Jilaow, nominated as a Public Member.
According to the schedule released by the Assembly, the candidates will be vetted individually by the committee before recommendations are forwarded for consideration and approval.
The nominations are being processed in accordance with the Affordable Housing Act, 2024, the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act, 2017, and the County Government Act, 2012.
The Assembly has also invited members of the public to participate in the approval process by submitting written memoranda or statements regarding the suitability of the nominees. Such submissions must reach the Office of the Clerk or be sent via email before June 24, 2026.
Nominees have been directed to submit the required documents, including academic certificates, tax compliance certificates, clearance certificates from relevant government agencies, and certificates of good conduct, ahead of the vetting exercise.
The notice by M.A. Santur, Clerk of the Garissa County Assembly, encouraged public participation as part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability in public appointments.
