RTG Football Club has developed grassroots football and is seeking to create opportunities for young players in Garissa and the wider North Eastern region, its patron Yunis Haji Dekow said.
The community-based club, known as RTG FC or The Blues, aims to identify emerging football talent, promote youth empowerment and use sport to encourage discipline, teamwork and social cohesion.
Yunis Dekow said the club was established to provide young footballers with a platform to develop their abilities and pursue opportunities in competitive football.
“Garissa and the wider Northern Kenya region have talented young footballers who need opportunities, proper guidance and structured support to realise their potential,” Dekow said.

“RTG Football Club is an investment in our young people and an opportunity to use sport to build discipline, confidence and unity in our communities,” he added.
The club is based in Garissa and is affiliated with the Football Kenya Federation’s Garissa Branch. It is associated with RTG Digital, a 24-hour news and current affairs media network broadcasting in Somali, Swahili and English.
Yunis Dekow said the club would prioritise grassroots football programmes, talent identification and community engagement, with a long-term ambition of producing players capable of competing at national and professional levels.
He said football could also help bridge social differences and provide young people with constructive opportunities.

“Football has the power to bring people together beyond their backgrounds. We want RTG FC to represent unity, discipline and hope, while giving our young people something positive to work towards,” he said.
The club’s mission is to nurture local football talent while promoting sportsmanship and community participation. Its colours are blue, red, white and gold, and its players are known as the Blues Boys of Garissa.
Yunis Dekow said RTG remains committed to supporting community initiatives beyond journalism and broadcasting.
“We believe our responsibility goes beyond reporting the news. We also want to contribute to initiatives that develop talent, empower young people and build stronger communities,” he said.
The club’s slogan is “Developing Talent, Building Community, Northern Kenya.”
