Buraze Urges Garissa Youth to Support El Niño Preparedness Efforts

Garissa youth leader Nasteh Buraze commends government preparedness for El Niño

Garissa youth leader Nasteh Buraze has commended ongoing government efforts to prepare for the anticipated El Niño conditions.

He urged residents, particularly young people, to support disaster preparedness initiatives.

Buraze said the preparedness measures being undertaken by national and county government agencies, together with other stakeholders, would help minimise the potential impact of heavy rains and related emergencies when the El Niño conditions occur.

He noted that stakeholders in Garissa have already held coordination meetings and conducted assessments in vulnerable areas as part of efforts to identify risks and strengthen the county’s readiness.

The youth leader called on young people across Garissa to actively participate in preparedness and response activities whenever called upon by the authorities.

“The youth have a critical role to play in supporting the government and other stakeholders during emergencies.

When called upon, we should be ready to assist our communities and help prevent loss of lives and property,” Buraze said.

He urged young people to work closely with local administrators, disaster response teams and community organisations.

“Particularly in areas that may be affected by flooding and disruption of essential services,” he said.

The preparedness efforts come as authorities and stakeholders intensify coordination and risk assessments ahead of the expected rains, with emphasis on early warning, community awareness and rapid response.

Buraze has encouraged residents of Garissa and Tana River counties to take early warnings seriously and avoid activities that could expose them to unnecessary risks during period.
