Wajir gubernatorial aspirant Omar Sheikh Mohamed has rejected the self declaration of one of three candidates as the Rer Aw Mohamud community’s preferred candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Dr. Omar said the selection process was compromised by corruption and lacked transparency.
He claimed that a meeting held on Thursday at the Kenya Red Cross offices, where Mr. Ahmed Kolosh was declared the community’s sole candidate, did not reflect the collective decision of the Rer Aw Mohamud family.
Dr. Omar, said the conference was conducted behind closed doors and excluded many delegates who had participated in an earlier community gathering.
He argued that the only legitimate forum recognized by the community was the large family assembly held on 17 July in Hadhadho.
The meeting had been planned over a period of three months and attracted thousands of members from across Kenya and the diaspora.
The gathering brought together members of the Rer Aw Mohamud community for prayers and consultations, with delegates agreeing that the family would, at an appropriate time, make a final determination on who would fly the community’s flag in the 2027 Wajir gubernatorial race.
Three aspirants had expressed interest in seeking the community’s endorsement: Omar Sheikh Mohamed, Yahya Dahiye and Ahmed Kolosh.
Mr. Omar maintained that no individual had been authorized to declare himself the community’s sole candidate before the process agreed upon during the Hadhadho meeting was concluded.
He accused unnamed individuals of influencing elders and manipulating the selection process to secure Mr. Kolosh’s endorsement, insisting that the declaration was “null and void.”
“The dates and resolutions agreed upon during the Hadhadho family gathering remain the only valid roadmap endorsed by the delegates,” Mr. Omar said.
He called on members of the Rer Aw Mohamud community to remain united and respect the resolutions reached during the July meeting, saying any parallel process would undermine the consensus built among community members.
Wajir gubernatorial aspirant Yahya Dahiye also rejected the outcome of the meeting that declared Ahmed Kolosh as the Rer Aw Mohamud community’s sole candidate, describing the process as shambolic and lacking legitimacy.
Mr. Dahiye argued that the declaration violated the resolutions reached during the community’s 17 July gathering in Hadhadho, where delegates agreed that a final decision on the family’s preferred gubernatorial candidate would be made through an inclusive and consultative process.
He said the meeting held at the Kenya Red Cross offices was neither representative nor transparent, alleging that it excluded key delegates and elders who had participated in the earlier family conference.
Mr. Dahiye said the process failed to uphold the principles of openness, fairness and consensus that had been agreed upon by the community.
He urged members of the Rer Aw Mohamud community to disregard the declaration, insisting that any endorsement made outside the framework agreed upon in Hadhadho was invalid.
Mr. Dahiye called for unity among community members and appealed for adherence to the resolutions reached during the July family assembly.
