President William Ruto flagged off a new consignment of medical equipment purchased by the Mombasa County Government for deployment across health facilities in the county on Thursday.
The equipment was flagged off at the R.G. Ngala Grounds in Mombasa to step up efforts to improve access to healthcare services.
President Ruto commended Mombasa Governor Abdulsamad Shariff Nassir for investing in people, infrastructure and medical equipment, while expanding access to services across the county.
Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital has expanded specialised services, including radiotherapy, intensive care, cardiac care and diagnostics.
Radiotherapy capacity has doubled to about 140 patients a day, while dental and radiology services have been brought closer to communities.
The county is also upgrading existing facilities, constructing new ones and strengthening emergency response as part of efforts to ensure residents can access quality care closer to home.
Mombasa has further expanded access to MombasaCare and the Social Health Authority (SHA), recording 976,085 SHA registrations by June 2026.
Governor Nassir thanked President Ruto for his continued support and for backing the county’s health-sector programmes.
He said the national government had also continued to advance investment in medical equipment and universal health coverage.
The latest consignment is aimed at supporting service delivery across Mombasa’s health facilities and reduce the need for residents to travel long distances for treatment.
