Ivory Coast kicked off their FIFA World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ecuador, securing all three points thanks to a decisive strike from Amad Diallo.
The match remained tightly contested for much of the game before Diallo broke the deadlock, scoring the only goal to hand the Elephants a winning start to the tournament. Ecuador battled throughout but were unable to find an equaliser as Ivory Coast’s defence held firm until the final whistle.
