Garissa County Teaching and Referral Level 5 Hospital has commenced the first phase of implementing its digital patient management system as part of efforts to modernise healthcare delivery and improve patient records management.
CEO Mahat Salah said the transition from manual to digital processes is a strategic initiative by the hospital leadership to digitise the patient journey, from registration and admission to treatment and discharge.
Mahat Salah said implementation began this morning, following staff training conducted last week. “Initial challenges, including network interruptions and the time required for staff to familiarise themselves with the system, have affected some processes as the hospital adjusts to the new platform,” he said.
The hospital management acknowledges the concerns raised by patients and members of the public and sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused.
“To minimise disruptions, management has directed that the digital and manual systems operate concurrently until the digital platform stabilises and network reliability improves.”
Emergency patients will not be required to wait for digital registration or clerking before receiving medical attention. All emergency cases must be assessed and stabilised immediately, with manual processes used where necessary. Digital registration and the completion of administrative procedures can follow once immediate medical needs have been addressed.
The hospital reiterates that patient safety and timely access to emergency care remain its highest priorities throughout the transition.
Mahat Salah has appealed to patients, caregivers and the public for patience and understanding as it works to address the initial challenges and strengthen service delivery.
The hospital remains committed to ensuring that digital technology enhances efficiency, improves accountability and strengthens patient care without compromising access to timely and quality healthcare services.
