Garissa Residents Urge County to Turn City Vision into Tangible Results

Share:

Garissa residents have called on the county government to translate its vision of making Garissa a city of order, dignity, hope and opportunities into tangible outcomes for residents.

They said the county’s vision should be reflected in improved service delivery, better urban planning, a cleaner environment and expanded economic opportunities.

Abdiwaahab Haji, a resident of Township told RTG Digital, achieving an orderly and dignified city requires deliberate efforts to improve urban management and address challenges affecting the town.

He called for greater attention to cleanliness, waste management, drainage and the organisation of public spaces, saying these were essential to creating a better living environment for residents.

Mohamed Sheikh Gedi emphasised the need for the county government to prioritise affordable, accessible and sustainable quality services in line with its stated mission.

He said residents should experience the impact of the county’s development agenda through improved public services and initiatives that respond to their everyday needs.

Gedi also underscored the importance of accountability in implementing development projects, urging the administration to ensure that its plans translate into measurable improvements in residents’ lives.

Warsame Duale, a person with disability in Iftin ward, called for greater investment in economic opportunities, particularly for young people and local entrepreneurs.

He said the ambition of making Garissa a city of hope and opportunities should be supported by initiatives that encourage enterprise, create jobs and promote sustainable economic growth.

Duale also stressed the importance of involving residents in development planning, noting that “public participation and cooperation between the county government and the community were essential to achieving lasting results.”

“The county administration should uphold its core values of citizen focus, professionalism, innovation and teamwork in the delivery of public services,” he said.

He said principles should guide decision-making, strengthen accountability and ensure that residents remain at the centre of development priorities.

“The county government to establish clear implementation targets and regularly communicate progress to the public.”

The residents maintained that a clean, well-planned and economically vibrant Garissa would improve living standards, attract investment and create better opportunities for future generations.

The success of the county’s vision should ultimately be measured by the quality of services delivered, the opportunities created and the dignity afforded to residents.
