Public transport operations in Garissa were disrupted on Monday after bus and matatu operators suspended services following the recent fuel price increase announced by EPRA.
Thousands of passengers travelling between Garissa and Nairobi were stranded at bus termini as operators cited rising operational costs linked to the sharp increase in diesel and petrol prices.
Several transport operators also announced fare increases, saying the current fuel prices had made normal operations unsustainable.
The situation comes amid nationwide protests over the rising cost of fuel and living expenses, with transport operators calling on the government to reduce fuel levies and introduce measures to cushion the sector.
