Mohamed Ali H. Dahir, popularly known as “Obama”, has formally positioned himself as a Senate aspirant for Wajir County, promising to make the interests of residents the centrepiece of his political agenda.
Running on the ODM/Tuko Tayari platform, Dahir is presenting his candidacy as a call for stronger representation, accountability and inclusive development across Wajir county.
His campaign message is anchored on a simple phrase: “Wajir First, People Always.”
Dahir says his political ambition is driven by the need for leadership that listens to residents, defends their interests and translates public expectations into measurable results.
The Senate aspirant envisions a Wajir where all constituencies receive fair attention and where communities have an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from development.
“My political philosophy is the belief that Wajir’s diversity should be treated as an asset rather than a source of political division.”
He says leadership should unite residents around common aspirations while ensuring that no community or constituency is excluded from development opportunities.
Dahir’s campaign is built around four broad pillars: strong and ethical leadership, accountable representation, inclusive development and measurable results.
“I promise integrity, courage and humility, arguing that elected leaders must be prepared to make difficult decisions in the public interest,” said Obama.
His second pillar focuses on accountability. Dahir says a senator should remain accessible to the people, listen to their concerns and regularly account for the responsibility entrusted to him.
He has pledged an inclusive approach that gives every constituency and community a stake in Wajir’s progress.
The fourth pillar, measurable results, is aimed at shifting political discourse from promises to practical outcomes that residents can see, feel and evaluate.
Dahir says his understanding of the Senate goes beyond the symbolic role of representation.
“I intend to use the constitutional mandate of the Senate to strengthen oversight, champion Wajir’s interests at the national level and advocate for equitable allocation of resources,” he said.
He also wants national policies and government programmes to better reflect the realities and priorities of residents of the county.
The aspirant says his campaign is not about securing personal privilege but about public service and restoring confidence in political leadership.
He is seeking to position himself as a candidate who can speak for Wajir across political, constituency and community lines.
“Wajir First, People Always” is therefore being presented not simply as a campaign slogan, but as a statement of the kind of leadership Dahir says he intends to offer.
His broader message is that residents deserve representation that is visible, accessible and accountable.
Dahir says that, if given the mandate, he would seek to be a senator for every Wajiri regardless of constituency, community, background or political affiliation.
“Committed. Competent. For All.”
That is the identity he hopes to build around his 2027 Senate bid as the political contest for Wajir begins to take shape.
