Lagdera Member of Parliament Abdikadir Hussein has condemned recent remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, terming them venomous and dangerous to national unity.
The MP said Gachagua’s utterances were aimed at stirring hate and sowing division among Kenyans, warning that such rhetoric threatens the country’s cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
“Such divisive language is harmful and undermines the collective efforts of building a united Kenya,” Hussein said, adding that leaders must exercise responsibility in their public statements.
He urged Kenyans to reject what he described as toxic politics and instead promote love, unity, and respect across ethnic and political lines.
Hussein made the remarks in Garissa town while attending a social function, where he emphasized that leadership should focus on uniting the country rather than exploiting differences for political gain.
The legislator called on political leaders to prioritize national interest and peaceful coexistence, noting that Kenya’s stability depends on responsible and inclusive leadership.
The controversy has intensified following remarks by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who implicated a prominent mall in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area in a multi-million-dollar fraud scheme in the United States.
According to allegations, the scheme involved the misappropriation of over $300 million that was intended to provide food aid to vulnerable children during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Reports indicate that several individuals based in Minnesota, some reportedly with Kenyan ties, were involved in orchestrating the alleged fraud.
The claims have sparked widespread debate, raising questions about the accountability of overseas connections and the flow of donor funds meant for humanitarian relief.
Mr. Ahmed Haji, a legal analyst, has cautioned that linking local businesses to international crimes without verified evidence could have serious reputational and legal consequences.
Meanwhile, the authorities in both Kenya and the United States are under pressure to clarify the extent of the alleged fraud and determine whether any local actors were involved.
