The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairperson for Galbet Ward, Abdinoor Salan, on Tuesday joined Garissa Township parliamentary aspirant Mohamed Abdi Were in a meeting with barbers at Jamhuri Club in Garissa, where they discussed youth empowerment, employment and economic opportunities.
The meeting brought together barbers from across Garissa Township, who shared challenges affecting their businesses, including access to affordable financing, rising operational costs and the need for skills development.
Abdinoor Salan said the engagement was part of ongoing efforts to listen to grassroots concerns and strengthen support for the government’s economic agenda.
“We listened to their concerns, discussed youth empowerment and economic opportunities, and reaffirmed our support for H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto’s second-term Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) for a more prosperous Kenya,” Salan said.
Mr. Mohamed Abdi Were, who is seeking the Garissa Township parliamentary seat on an Aulyahan community ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election, emphasized the importance of supporting small businesses as drivers of local economic growth.
He said barbers and other informal sector entrepreneurs play a critical role in creating employment opportunities for young people and called for policies that improve access to capital, training and business development programs.
Participants urged political leaders to champion initiatives that address unemployment, expand financial inclusion and create a more enabling environment for youth-led enterprises.
The meeting forms part of a series of grassroots engagements by local political leaders as campaigns and public consultations gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
