Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital Chief Executive Officer Mahat Sheikh Salah has been commended for his swift intervention in helping secure emergency medical assistance for an accident victim in Habaswein.
The incident occurred after a member of The Friends of Garissa & Madogo forum was involved in an accident and required urgent ambulance services.
Damaris Wanjiku, popularly known as Dammah Shiko and a leader of the group, received a late-night call seeking assistance and immediately contacted CEO Mahat for support.
The social media forum, which brings together residents and friends of Garissa and Madogo, aims to promote respectful dialogue, business networking and civic engagement while curbing hate speech, discrimination and harmful online content.
Shiko said she shared information about the affected member, who had been involved in the accident and required urgent medical attention, with the CEO of Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
She said Mahat responded promptly and helped coordinate access to emergency ambulance services, resulting in the victim receiving medical evacuation assistance.
Mrs Shiko expressed appreciation to those involved in the rescue effort, particularly the community members who coordinated the response and CEO Mahat Sheikh Salah, for what she described as a well-coordinated emergency intervention.
The immediate response to the incident highlighted the importance of responsive leadership and accessible public health services, particularly during emergencies when delays can have serious consequences.
