Wajir gubernatorial aspirant Omar Mohamed Sheikh has outlined plans to prioritise youth employment, women’s economic empowerment and livestock development as key pillars of his vision for the county.
Mr. Omar said Wajir’s economy largely depends on livestock and small-scale trade, making investment in these sectors critical to improving livelihoods.
He proposed expanding access to business financing, vocational training and entrepreneurship support programmes targeting young people and women.
The aspirant also pledged to strengthen livestock value chains by improving access to markets, supporting disease control programmes and encouraging value addition.
“Our young people should be creators of jobs, not merely seekers of jobs,” he said.
Omar said empowering women entrepreneurs and pastoralist communities would stimulate economic growth while reducing poverty across Wajir.
He added that his administration would work closely with the private sector, development partners and local communities to unlock investment opportunities and create a resilient county economy.
According to Omar, investing in human capital alongside the livestock sector would lay the foundation for long-term prosperity and inclusive development in Wajir County.
