Somalia PM reshuffles cabinet, appoints new ministers

Share:

Somali prime minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, has dismissed two senior ministers and appointed replacements in a fresh cabinet reshuffle aimed at accelerating government performance.

In a decree issued on Friday, Barre removed the minister for public works, reconstruction and housing, as well as the minister for trade and industry.

He named ambassador Jamaal Mohamed Hassan as the new minister for trade and industry, and MP Ayub Yusuf Ismail as minister for public works.

The appointments take effect immediately following the prime minister’s signature, according to the decree.

The newly appointed ministers were instructed to assume office without delay and deliver “enhanced performance” in their respective portfolios.

Government sources said further cabinet changes are expected in the coming weeks as the administration continues a broader review of key ministries.

The reshuffle comes amid wider reforms by the Dan-Qaran government, which has intensified performance monitoring across ministries.

Prime Minister Barre recently carried out inspections of major public facilities and intervened directly to resolve complaints raised by civil servants.

This he said is part of efforts to boost accountability and service delivery nearly three years into his tenure.
