Hundreds of traders operating in the Kamukunji West section of Gikomba Market are set to be relocated to pave the way for the second phase of construction of the new linear market.
Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan announced the planned relocation, saying it would facilitate the next stage of the market development project.
The legislator inspected progress at the newly constructed Block A, B and C stalls located behind Muthurwa School, on the southern side of the Nairobi River.
The development is part of ongoing efforts to improve market infrastructure and provide traders with more organised trading spaces.
The planned relocation is expected to affect hundreds of traders operating in the designated section of Gikomba Market. However, details on the relocation timeline and arrangements for affected traders were not immediately available.
Gikomba is one of Nairobi’s major trading hubs, serving traders and customers from across the capital and beyond.
