Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital will conduct a free ear, nose and throat (ENT) and eye surgery camp from November 1–8, 2026, to improve access to specialised healthcare services in North Eastern Kenya.
Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Hussein Buro, said the eight-day medical mission would benefit residents of Garissa and neighbouring counties, particularly those facing challenges accessing specialised medical care.
Dr. Buro said the initiative forms part of the hospital’s broader efforts to strengthen specialised healthcare delivery and bring essential medical services closer to communities across the North Eastern region.
Dr. Ali Gure, Head of the ENT Department, said the camp would provide specialised assessments and treatment for ear, nose and throat conditions.
ENT conditions include ear infections, hearing loss, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, nasal blockage and tonsillitis, which can affect hearing, breathing, balance and sleep.
“Some of these conditions require specialised medical attention and, in certain cases, surgical intervention to prevent complications and improve patients’ quality of life,” Dr. Gure said.
Dr. Moulid Omar Abdi, an ophthalmologist specialising in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the hospital, said the eye component would provide patients with access to specialised eye assessments and surgical services.
The camp will run daily from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
