Hundreds of residents from Galbet Ward have endorsed business and public service administrator Abdihafid Buthul as their preferred candidate for the ward representative position in the Garissa County Assembly during a community meeting held at his home.
The gathering, attended largely by neighbours and residents from the surrounding area, took the form of a traditional village meeting, or kamukunji, where community members openly discussed local priorities, leadership and development needs.
Unlike a formal political rally, the meeting emerged organically from the local community, reflecting residents’ familiarity with Buthul’s involvement in social welfare initiatives within his immediate neighbourhood.
Residents highlighted his engagement in community affairs, particularly his participation in initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of people in the neighbourhood. They expressed confidence in his potential to represent their interests in the Garissa County Assembly.
During the meeting, residents challenged Buthul to mobilise resources to support the development of the local mosque and madrasa, as well as coordinate bush-clearing initiatives to improve security in the neighbourhood.
The proposed bush-clearing exercise was identified as a practical intervention to improve visibility and address security concerns around Tetu. Residents also identified the improvement of Tetu Mosque as a priority, citing its importance to the community’s religious and social needs.
The residents commended Buthul’s community-oriented leadership, citing his practical approach to service, participation in local initiatives and ability to mobilise resources to address challenges affecting the neighbourhood.
