National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called for communities living in mineral-rich areas to directly benefit from the exploitation of natural resources.
Speaking during a fundraiser at Moyeni Girls Senior School in Kinango Constituency, Kwale County, Wetang’ula said mining revenues should translate into tangible development for local communities, landowners and county governments.
He said the government would ensure investors in the mining sector operate under a framework that promotes fairness and equitable sharing of benefits.
Wetang’ula said Kwale’s mineral wealth, including its titanium deposits, could transform the county if properly managed, with mining revenues invested in schools, roads and health facilities.
He also identified fisheries and tourism as key sectors with potential to drive economic growth in the Coast region.
