Muslim religious leaders in Northeastern counties have called for a coordinated response to combat human trafficking and irregular migration, warning that vulnerable young people are increasingly at risk of exploitation.

The appeal was made during a meeting convened by the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Northeastern Region on Tuesday.

It brought together Muslim scholars and religious leaders in Wajir to deliberate on the growing threat facing communities across the region.

The meeting was chaired by SUPKEM Northeastern Regional Coordinator Dr. Adan Yunis, who urged parents, community leaders, security agencies, and other stakeholders to work together to protect vulnerable members of society, particularly the youth.

The stakeholders emphasized that stronger parental responsibility, increased community vigilance, and effective enforcement of existing laws are essential to curbing human trafficking networks and discouraging irregular migration.

The religious leaders also stressed the importance of public awareness and community engagement in preventing exploitation.

The Islamic council noted that faith leaders have a critical role in educating families and promoting values that protect human dignity.

SUPKEM reaffirmed its commitment to working with government agencies, civil society, and local communities through advocacy, awareness campaigns, and strategic partnerships aimed at safeguarding the security, dignity, and wellbeing of all residents in Northeastern Kenya.
