Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Capt. William Ruto on Wednesday held talks with members of the Coast Parliamentary Group to review port performance and discuss regional development priorities linked to port activities.
The meeting was led by Coast Parliamentary Group Chairman and Wundanyi MP Mr. Danson Mwashako, alongside Garsen MP Mr. Ali Hashaka, and brought together legislators from port-dependent regions.
During the engagement, Capt. Ruto reported steady growth in cargo throughput in recent years, attributing the positive trend to improved operational efficiency and enhanced service delivery at the ports.
He noted that ongoing reforms and investments were aimed at strengthening KPA’s role as a key driver of national and regional economic growth.
The discussions emphasized the need for closer collaboration between KPA and elected leaders to ensure that gains in port performance translate into tangible benefits for local communities, including job creation and support for regional development initiatives.
Garsen MP Ali Hashaka welcomed the engagement, describing such forums as critical in strengthening cooperation between national institutions and regional leadership.
He said the improved cargo performance demonstrated that efficiency gains at the ports could deliver real economic value for the country.
“As leaders, we must ensure that this progress goes beyond statistics and directly supports regional development priorities — creating jobs, empowering local businesses, and uplifting communities, especially at the Coast and other port-dependent regions,” Hashaka said.
He added that sustained dialogue and partnership between KPA and lawmakers would be key to unlocking inclusive growth and shared prosperity for communities reliant on port activities.
The leaders committed to continued engagement between KPA and Coast leaders to align port operations with broader regional and national development goals.
