Garissa to Host Farmers Field Day Boosting Agriculture and Livestock Sector

Share:

Garissa County will host a Farmers Field Day aimed at strengthening agriculture and livestock production in arid and semi-arid areas.

The event, a partnership with the Kuza Jamii Project, will bring together about 3,000 farmers and livestock keepers drawn from six sub-counties: Dadaab, Balambala, Lagdera, Fafi, Garissa Township, and Ijara on January 17.

The Field Day will provide a platform for farmers, cooperatives, and stakeholders to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations, and explore ways of improving market access for agricultural and livestock products.

Several local cooperatives will participate by exhibiting their products and sharing success stories, including the Dadaab Safi Women Milk Cooperative Society, Dadaab Mercy Cooperative Society, and the Garissa Camel Milk SACCO, among others.

It will be held under the theme “Farm to Market: Creating Stronger Agricultural Supply Chains.”

Governor Nathif Jama will officiate the event, which is part of broader efforts to promote climate-smart agriculture.

Governor Jama said the open forum is designed to enhance value addition, and strengthen linkages between producers and markets.

The Farmers Field Day will highlight best practices in livestock management, agribusiness, and cooperative development.

“The joint initiative will reinforce the role of partnerships in building resilient agricultural value chains in arid regions,” Mr. Jama added.
