Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital will host a Free Obstetric Fistula Treatment Camp aimed at supporting women suffering from the debilitating condition commonly associated with complications during childbirth.

The medical outreach program will run from March 30 to April 3, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the hospital’s premises in Garissa. The initiative seeks to provide specialized care to women experiencing continuous leakage of urine or stool following childbirth, a key symptom of obstetric fistula.

The hospitalal said the camp will offer free medical assessment, surgery, treatment, and post-operative care conducted by a specialized medical team trained in fistula repair.

Acting Director of Press Services Yunis Dekow said the initiative is part of the hospital’s commitment to improving maternal health and restoring dignity to affected women.

“Obstetric fistula is a treatable condition, yet many women continue to suffer in silence,” Dekow said. “Through this camp, Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital is offering free specialized treatment to ensure affected women regain their health, confidence, and dignity.”

Mr. Dekow encouraged families and community leaders to help identify women living with the condition and support them in accessing care during the outreach period.

He emphasized that early intervention and access to skilled medical care can significantly improve outcomes for women living with obstetric fistula.

According to the public relations manager, many women in remote and underserved communities continue to live with the condition due to lack of awareness, limited access to specialized services, and social stigma.

Mr. Dekow urged women seeking treatment or families requiring further information to contact the hospital through the registration lines 0720 267 708 or 0715 501 252.

He said the camp forms part of its broader efforts to expand specialized maternal health services in northern Kenya and reduce preventable childbirth-related complications.

Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital is committed to providing accessible and quality healthcare services to communities across the region under its guiding mission of restoring health, hope, and dignity.
