The Ministry of Health has reassured international partners of its readiness to tackle emerging public health threats, including the ongoing Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in the region.
Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale described Kenya’s health system as “a trusted partner in global health security.” Mr. Duale highlighted ongoing collaborations with the US and other partners to strengthen preparedness and response mechanisms.
More than 55,000 travellers have been screened at points of entry, with ten suspected cases tested — all negative. Kenya has activated its national Incident Management System, intensified surveillance and designated testing laboratories.
“Kenya is ready. Kenya is capable. Kenya will continue to act responsibly in safeguarding both national and global health security, said Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary for Health.
The government said it would provide regular updates and that all international cooperation will be guided by Kenyan laws and national interest, with the protection of citizens remaining paramount.
