𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐎𝐁𝐈 — The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation has agreed to convene a multi-stakeholder meeting to address persistent problems at the Tula Tula Water Supply Project in Wajir county.
The move follows appeals by Dr. Ahmed Boray, a former ODM candidate for Eldas. He raised concerns after visiting Tula Tula town. Residents had protested over severe water shortages. The project was already completed and commissioned.
Dr. Boray said the response from government agencies was encouraging. He cited feedback from the Northern Water Works Development Agency (NWWDA), the Water Sector Trust Fund, and the Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Mr. Eric Mugaa.
“After engaging residents and appealing to both levels of government, we have received a positive response,” Dr Boray said.
“The ministry has confirmed plans for a joint meeting to resolve the operational challenges,” he added.
CS Eric Mugaa confirmed the plan after meeting senior water sector officials at Maji House in Nairobi. The talks included NWWDA chief executive Andrew Rage Eysimkele and Water Sector Trust Fund chief executive Willis Okello Ombai.
The minister said officials discussed progress on water projects in Wajir. These included the Eldas Water Supply Project and the Eldas–Lanquraa scheme. Both aim to ease recurring drought pressures.
He said the Tula Tula project remained a concern. Operational hurdles have limited supply. A joint forum will bring together national officials, county authorities, and community representatives.
“We agreed to chart a sustainable way forward,” Mugaa said. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safe and reliable water for all Kenyans.
Residents of Eldas welcomed the announcement and expressed cautious hope.
Dr Boray pledged to continue follow-up until water flows reliably again in the drought-prone area.
